Everyone suffers betrayal. When we do, our natural instinct is to fight back, or to retreat into isolation. How do we forgive someone or something that hurts us deeply?
Kent and Tanya Whitaker show why it is so important to bring our perspective in line with God’s - and then, they share insights that will help us forgive those who have wounded us. Their personal experience in suffering traumatic loss at the hands of those they loved the most became the catalyst for their forgiveness journey.
Kent’s story, involving the murders of his wife and younger son, orchestrated by his other son, has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show, 20/20, and 48 Hours. His book about his journey of forgiveness and healing, Murder by Family, reached the NY Times Best Seller List. Tanya’s story has many of the same components: loss, betrayal, shame, and life as a single Mom.
“Even though our stories scream “loss!”, thanks to a redemptive and loving God, they are ultimately stories of healing and hope”, says Kent. “God has taken two tragically broken people, brought us together, and turned our stories into beacons of encouragement all over the country. Forgiveness is the key.”
