Jim Bontrager is the Senior Chaplain with the Elkhart, IN Police Department. As a former United States Marine, Jim understands warriors and is firmly convinced that they desperately need God's wisdom, strength, and power. Jim speaks at Men's Events, Law Enforcement Retreats, and Military Ministries all around the country.
He holds his Master Chaplain credentials with the International Conference of Police Chaplains (ICPC), is a certified law enforcement instructor with the State of Indiana and the ICPC, and serves full-time as Senior Chaplain with the Elkhart (IN) Police Department. Jim serves as a national board member with the Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers USA and as the Indiana State Representative with the ICPC. He spearheads a 20+ year outreach to strengthen law enforcement families.
He was appointed a Sagamore of the Wabash by IN Governor Mike Pence in 2015, is the 2012 recipient of the Wilbert A. Cunningham Award for excellence in law enforcement chaplaincy (IN) and a 2013 recipient of an Excellence in Leadership Award from Pointman Leadership Institute.
Married to his wife Susie of 30+ years, Jim is father of 9 children, aged 12 to 29 yrs. old.
